Copperhead County January Check-In

Hello outlaws,

This is just a brief check-in to follow up on last month's baleful update. I'm happy to say that 2023 has been very productive so far. I and a few members of the Copperhead County brain trust have been hard at work, so I wanted to give some shout-outs and post some new art. After a very difficult late 2022, I feel like I'm finally coming out of an endless Desperate position and making some good rolls.

Myself and Michael Crowley have been sitting down nearly every day to go through remaining content and rewrites. At this point, the book is almost text-complete, with two major outstanding project clocks:

  • The Campaign chapter, to which I'll be adding a lot of general content on advancement, campaign play, etc, as well as musings on advanced topics like time jumps.
  • The Copperhead County chapter, to which I'm adding major new content for every single area of the setting, and full faction write-ups for the mysterious Outside Factions.

There's already a ton of new content done which I'm excited will soon finally see the light of day. Just a few more 6's and we'll get there.

Also very helpfully, Friend of Copperhead County Calum Grace recently resumed GMing our Tortuga County campaign (a spinoff from our multi-year Copperhead County campaign GMed by me), which we hadn't been able to play in a few months. I don't think this is a very hot take, but I think games are meant to be played, and actually playing this game does a lot to shake off my doldrums and get my brain moving.

After such a long hiatus, we had a lot of pent-up roleplaying energy, and we ended up playing a super-sized session without even finishing our downtime phase. After I told another friend about all of our crazy Tortuga downtime adventures (awkward family dinners! Sad breakups! Unexpected violence!), he asked if I was concerned whether I had made downtime too much fun. It's true that we spend a lot of Tortuga County in downtime — but no, I think that rules!

I know Calum has also resumed work on Tortuga County, so if you're interested in his take on a Copperhead County setting, Southern California style, follow him on Twitter and Patreon.

Last, and certainly not least, official Copperhead County interior artist Adam Schwaninger has been on his art grind, giving his new drawing tablet a real workout.

(By the way, before I distract you with a bunch of art, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has purchased Copperhead County lately or encouraged anyone to do so. I know things are quiet right now, but you are honestly helping me pay my mortgage and feed my family!)

Anyhow, here are some recent pieces we've cooked up together:

Mooney, the mascot of the Copperhead Shiners Double-A baseball team

A consequence of living too large

A happy and carefree servant of the people

That's all for now. Stay tuned for more news later.
